- £500k in new machine tools incorporating two, 5-axis Mazak Integrex CNC machining centres plus ancillary operations
- £150k in new demonstration and testing facility, including 6-axis Kuka robot, spray booth and extraction + a further £150k in office, IT and general improvements.
The new machining centre incorporates two, 5-axis Mazak Integrex CNC machine tools and will enable Metallisation to produce 80% of the components used in the manufacturing of its products in-house. This will result in improving the quality of the product and delivery times to its customers.
To celebrate the company’s successes and the investment in the new Mazak machine tools, an in-house competition was held to name both machines. Beth Satchell, Sales and Shipping Coordinator, won a bottle of champagne with her suggestion of ‘Schoop’ and ‘Ballard’. Both names are significant in the history of Metallisation. Dr U Schoop was the founder of the metal spraying process back in the 1920’s and Ballard was key to the development of Metallisation as a company, holding the post of Managing Director for over 35 years.
The company has also invested in a demonstration and testing facility, incorporating a 6-axis Kuka robot, spray booth and extraction unit. This will enable Metallisation to facilitate more Research and Development projects and develop tailor made processes with its customers. It also allows the company to demonstrate the whole product range more easily and enhance its customer solution delivery.
Metallisation celebrated 90 years in business earlier this year and continues to grow from strength to strength. The company employs a growing workforce, with 40 people currently working at its West Midlands factory. It is represented around the world by a network of agents and distributors, who assist clients with their equipment, material and technical requirements. Innovative product development, understanding its customers’ needs, and responding to them promptly and efficiently, have been key to the company’s growth. Even in these challenging economic times, Metallisation remains committed to developing new thermal spraying equipment and surface coating solutions, while continuing to provide exceptional service to its customers.
Metallisation, an owner-managed company, has grown its turnover by 35 per cent since 2007, both domestically and through exporting to over 72 countries. Exports account for 80 per cent of Metallisation’s annual turnover. Dr Terry Lester, Managing Director, says: “This is a very important time for Metallisation. We have continued to buck the trend and increase our exports year on year with a great product and a diverse portfolio of worldwide distributors. The investment in the new machining centre enables us to improve quality and response times. We are all really positive about the future development of the company and remain committed to delivering excellent service to our customers.”
