Metallisation offers a full range of training courses to suit the needs of our wide range of customers and we see training as a very important part of our offer.

Without training, users risk exposing operators to safety issues and also run the risk of applying poor quality coatings inefficiently. By taking one of our tailored training courses, you can be safe in the knowledge that the equipment will be used safely and correctly. Introduction to Operation, Maintenance and Coating Application

Equipment covered: Flamespray, Arcspray, Plasma and HVOF

Prior experience: None required

Course duration: Approx. 8 hours*

Teaching methods: Classroom and practical hands-on

Location: Metallisation or customer site (subject to suitable spray and  training site)

Charges: Charged per day for up to 6 operators + small charge per operator

Take-home: Training course presentation and certificate of attendance

Next steps: EN ISO 14918 training/assessment or a detailed bespoke  training course*

Instructor: Minimum 6 months Metallisation experience

*HVOF and Plasma plus automated equipment training courses spend less time focusing on the setup of the system and more time on the basic operation and maintenance of the equipment. Complex coating application training can be given in an extended, bespoke training course.

EN ISO 14918:2018 Operator Preparation Training Course

A good number of users of thermal spray coatings (oil and gas companies, road and rail infrastructure etc.) are now insisting that operators doing the spraying must be certified according to the EN ISO 14918 standard. This operator preparation training is the instruction before the assessment.

Equipment covered: Flamespray, Arcspray, Plasma and HVOF*

Prior experience: Ideally minimum 3 months and/or Introduction course

Course duration: Approx. 8 hours

Teaching methods: Classroom and practical hands-on Location: Metallisation or customer site (subject to suitable spray and training site)

Charges: Charged per day for up to 4 operators + small charge per  operator

Take-home: Training course presentation and certificate of attendance

Next steps: EN ISO 14918 assessment Instructor: Minimum 3 years Metallisation experience

EN ISO 14918:2018 Operator Assessment

In collaboration with the Thermal Spray and Surface Engineering Association (TSSEA), Metallisation can offer independent certification of operators in accordance with the EN ISO 14918 standard. This can be booked directly with Metallisation Ltd or by clicking here. The certificate will be issued by the TSSEA. In simple terms, this is like a driving test for operators.

Equipment covered: Flamespray, Arcspray, Plasma and HVOF*

Prior experience: Ideally minimum 3 months and/or 14918 training course

Assessment time: Up to 4 operators per day# Assessment type: Theory and practical

Location: Metallisation or customer (subject to suitable spray and  assessment site)

Charges: Variable – contact Metallisation Training Manager or TSSEA

Take-home: Successful candidates receive an EN ISO 14918 verified certificate

Validity: 3 years with no greater than 6 months gap in relevant  spraying

Instructor: Minimum 5 years relevant experience endorsed by the  TSSEA

We strongly recommend that companies and each operator acquire and read in detail the EN ISO 14918:2018 standard before starting the assessment process.

*HVOF and Plasma 14918 assessment is more detailed and tailored to a customers specific requirements. Contact Metallisation training Manager for more details.

Bespoke training courses

In addition to our standard courses, Metallisation Ltd can tailor a course to meet your specific thermal spray learning requirements. This may include:

  • More detailed application training – guidance on advanced techniques to prepare, apply and finish thermal spray coatings.
  • Coating development training – guidance on the principles of the chosen spray process and basics of how to change parameters and evaluate the subsequent coatings.
  • Detailed maintenance training – for maintenance teams or remote located customers wanting to take a greater role in preventative and breakdown maintenance.

SSPC Train The Painter – Metal Spray Module

New for 2019 is the SSPC Train the Painter Metal Spray Module.

Metallisation is an approved training provider for delivering the SSPC Train the Painter course. We have worked in close collaboration with Corrodere and SSPC to produce and deliver the course content of this invaluable course.

Equipment covered: Flamespray, Arcspray Prior experience: None

Course duration: Up to 3 days depending on prior experience and system(s) trained

Teaching methods: Classroom and practical hands-on

Location: Metallisation Charges: Charged per operator, minimum 2 operators per course

Assessment: Course includes a theory and practical assessment

Take-home: Successful candidates receive a SSPC Train the Painter  endorsed qualification for the thermal spray module
