How Does the Coating Process Work?

The thermal spray process begins with careful surface preparation.

The cylinder is cleaned and blasted to remove dirt, grease, old coatings, and any signs of rust. This stage is vital because a clean and slightly roughened surface allows the molten metal particles to bond more effectively. Without proper preparation, even the best coating materials would struggle to adhere properly.

Once prepared, the cylinder moves to the spraying stage. Using specialised thermal spray equipment, metal particles are heated to a molten or semi-molten state and propelled onto the surface at very high speed. When these particles hit the cylinder, they flatten and solidify almost instantly, building up layer upon layer of protective metal. The coating thickness can be carefully controlled to meet specific requirements, whether that involves light corrosion resistance or heavy-duty industrial protection.
