Thermal spray coatings for underground applications

Thermal spray coatings can be used to prevent corrosion in underground applications.

One of the most common applications is spraying zinc or zinc/aluminium 85/15 alloy coatings onto spun-cast ductile iron pipes.  These pipes are commonly used for potable and waste water applications.

Care needs to be taken to consider the soil conditions and advice should be sought from appropriately qualified corrosion engineers.

Thermal spray coatings are also invaluable in other underground applications such as lighting columns and monopiles for the wind industry, piled into the seabed.  The ability to apply a thick coating to specific areas makes thermal spray coatings a natural choice for these applications.
